My poem ‘Shore score’ was written in response to visits I have often made to the rocky and pebbly shore at Birling Gap, a National Trust coastal site nestling between Exceat and Eastbourne in East Sussex, UK. Out of the tourist season, the area takes on an almost wild, isolated existence, ripe for exploration and contemplation.
