To the Drongs (keeping clear of the Bonxies)
A lovely cliff top walk on Hillwick Ness (Shetland)
A midsummer walk from the village of Hillswick round the cliffs of Hillswick Ness out to see the Drongs ( a group of sea stacks) which look like a ruined castle when first see the. The walk takes you past beaches, sea arches and loads of wildlife. We were there in midsummer when birds are nesting, so we kept an eye out for great skuas (known as Bonxies on Shetland and in the Western Isles) which are vicious birds known for dive bombing folk who go near their nesting sites.
The furthest point on the walk is the automated lighthouse, which has a line of stakes with a rope leading up to it to enable you to pull yourself up, which shows how windy it can get up there.
Thh HR en following the coast back round to Hillswick.
On the way back to Lerwick we stopped off is n Brae at Frankie’s, the most northerly Fish and Chip shop in the UK (definitely recommended).
